In my opinion, Dr. Gersten pushes surgery first before any other options.  After reviewing my xray he immediately recommended surgery.  He did NOT tell me that my condition would heal on it's own if I simply stopped re-injuring myself.  He did not tell me that I could be given cortisone shots and that might help.  

I explained to the assistant that called me to schedule a surgery that I have other options and that I did not appreciate being told that I need surgery without first discussing these other options.  

I personally decided to no longer seek the advise or treatment of any doctor who does not provide less intrusive options to surgery first.    Surgery should be a last consideration and not a first.  Sometimes there are not any other options and surgery must be preformed.  Dr. Gersten might be a great surgeon, I don't know.   I do know that surgery is much more profitable than other options.  Given my minor condition and receiving surgery as advise, makes me feel like I've received a recommendation based on profit rather than health.

I did get the feeling Dr. Gersten has a lot of experience with my condition and surgery would probably help; but it's unnecessary.  

My car would run better with a new engine too, but I only needed new spark plugs.
