Biopsy

A biopsy is a procedure performed to remove a small sample of cells for testing. The cells are examined in a laboratory to check for disease, or sometimes to see how badly a known disease is affecting them. Biopsy can be performed on any part of the body.

Although biopsy is most often associated with cancer, it can also be used to check for other diseases, such as infections. A biopsy sample can be scraped, cut, collected with a needle, taken with a machine that punches out a tiny piece, or removed with the tiny tools in an endoscope.

In most cases, a biopsy is a simple outpatient procedure. Depending on the procedure, patients may need to stop taking certain medications beforehand, such as blood thinners. It is important for patients to tell doctors if they are pregnant, as certain biopsies require the use of x-rays to guide the needle to the right location. There is usually very little pain associated with a biopsy. Patients will have to wait a few days to hear the results.

I sought out Dr Naomi for a 2nd opinion for a surgery I needed. After the consult, I decide to change my previous scheduled surgery (at a different hospital) and go with Dr Neimi. I'm so glad I did. Dr Neimi put me at ease - was patient, thorough, explained everything to me, made sure I had all my questions answered, and made me feel comfortable and confident in the decision I made and her care. Her warm presence and bedside manner was reassuring. Post-operative follow up visit proved the same. Her surgical nursing staff team was also top notch. Excellent care all around and will gladly recommend Dr Neimi and Providence Hospital.

Dr. Nieme is one of the most patient, easy, well informed, direct Drs. I have met. She makes it easy to share your concerns and takes a genuine interest in your care. She was open to Alternative medicine when I broached the topic. I do appreciate her, she remained very positive through the lab corp transition, which was anything but smooth. Pretty much a-good team supporting her.. Leave it at that.

I think Dr. Niemi is a shining of example of how all doctors should interact with their patients. She is very calm, explains things well, and provides a very logical explanation of what is happening, why, and when. I feel like my medical concern was handled by her in a way that was very reassuring that I was in excellent hands and I had nothing to worry about.

I feel safe with Dr. Niemi. I have had some incredibly bad experiences involving medical professionals. I developed PTSD because of my skin color. It has taken decades to resolve the issues and I recently encountered an incident that triggered my PTSD. Dr. Niemi treated me with respect and saw me as a human being. She treated me as an equal. I trust her.

I think Dr Neimi might be the best doctor I've ever had. She got me into surgery as soon as possible and I am feeling better than I have in years. I'd also like to thank my ER Doctor at Willamette Falls, I forget his name, for getting me in to see her the next morning after my ER visit. If you could pass that along for me, I'd appreciate it)

Dr Niemi was the most impressive physician I've been exposed to maybe EVER. She has been the bright smart light who has kept me grounded and enlightened/informed straight out of the gate in regards to a recent diagnosis I'm still in the process of learning about.
