"I have been going to see Dr. Erich Braun for about 2 years now because I have to do visual fields yearly and because I had dry eyes. On 10/8/2020, I went to see him because one of the plugs (from my left eye) had fallen off and I was going to get it replaced. I had mentioned to him that my right eye was red and I had a stye that went away. He checked my eye and squeezed it saying that I may have had the root of the stye in there. I left the office and the next day my eye was swollen, red and the pain was horrible. I called and asked to speak to him and he did not call me back instead he had an assistant call me to tell me to put a warm compress and eyedrops. I did that for the weekend and noticed it was getting worse. On Monday 10/12/20, I called the office and asked to please speak with Dr. Braun. They said he would call me back and again someone else contacted me to tell me that it takes a while and continue putting the warm compress on my eye. She also said that if by Friday it wasn't better to call them back. On Friday, the pain had subsided but the eye was still swollen and red. I called again and said that I wanted to Speak to Dr. Braun and no one else. He never contacted me. This is my 3rd week and my eye is swollen with a lump on my eyelid and oozing all day. I will now contact a different doctor and never go to him again. Just wanted to share my story because Dr. Braun or his office have not contacted me and if I have a serious infection on my eye and something happens to my vision, they will really hear from me. "

"First visit with my sister-in-law, the Dr. was wonderful. He tested her cognitive abilities and saw the stage of her Alzheimer's. Seeing her condition, he suggested she start thinking about no longer living alone and moving to an assisted living facility.Things changed on the second visit. My sister-in-law's cognitive state had declined significantly in the four months since the previous visit. The Dr. did not do another test. When told she has a home health aid visiting three days a week to help her (drive her to the grocery store, keep her company, etc.), I was shocked to find he asked why. It was clear he hadn't even bothered to look at his own records from the previous visit.If you're seeking a doctor who can't be bothered, this is your man.I'm taking my sister-in-law elsewhere."

What is Ophthalmology?

An ophthalmologist is a physician who diagnoses and treats problems of the eye. As opposed to optometrists, ophthalmologists are medical doctors, and their specialty is comprehensive eye care and eye surgery. An ophthalmologist can:

see patients for routine eye care
diagnose eye problems
prescribe glasses, contact lenses, and medications
provide refractive therapies to correct vision, such as LASIK
perform surgery on the eye

Ophthalmologists are trained in the same vision screening practices as optometrists; however, their practice tends to focus more on the medical and surgical management of complex eye disorders. Although vision is important, so is the physical health of the eye. An ophthalmologist performing an eye exam will examine the whole eye including the eyelids, the muscles that move the eye, the front and back parts of the eye, and the pressure inside the eye.

Patients sometimes see ophthalmologists as their primary eye care and vision doctors, or they may be referred to an ophthalmologist for treatment of a one-time problem with their eye, such as an infection. Ophthalmologists provide routine care for patients who have chronic eye diseases, such as glaucoma (where pressure inside the eye damages the optic nerve sending images to the brain) or macular degeneration (an age-related eye disease that causes vision loss). In addition to providing routine care, ophthalmologists will perform eye surgery on patients who need more serious treatment, such as a corneal transplant.
