"Never before have I been treated as I have been by Steward Medical Group and Dr. Merida. I have been a patient for three years. I received only two weeks notice that Dr. Merida’s office was closing. No reassignment to another doctor within Steward Medical Group, no cancellation of my appointment, which was in three weeks. Nothing but a form letter. I called the office and the person I spoke with said it was not my fault, it was the Steward Corporate office’s fault, call them in Dallas, TX. I was also told that no doctors in the group located in Vero were accepting patients, although the Steward Medical Group Portal as well as my insurance provider’s portal said they were. I was offered an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner. I cannot believe how I was treated. Totally unacceptable in any circumstance, but unbelievable to be treated this way by your doctor and the medical group she was a part of. I am on medicine and require periodic blood work to ensure all is well. I am not sure who will be taking care of this now. I have filed a complaint with my insurance provider regarding Steward Medical Group and the handling of this situation."

"I was seen the emergency room with acute vomiting and abdomen pain. CT scan showed bowel obstruction. Dr Kirkland recommended NG suction and overnight stay. I was reluctant but she gently encouraged me and informed me of what could happen. I’ve had this recurring problem which led to other ER visits. She was the first doctor that diagnosed why this was happening. I feel like she saved my life. If not treated my obstruction could’ve ruptured. I feel very relieved. I want to thank her for taking care of me in Venice Hospital."
